Biography:
Dr. Stephen Saddler is a fellowship trained, sports medicine specialist with Mount Vernon Orthopedic and Podiatric Associates. He joined our practice in 1995, and has specialized in the treatment of complex shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee and ankle injuries. He is one of the region’s leading surgeons for the treatment of articular cartilage defects. Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (Carticel) involves the cloning or replication of cartilage cells and reimplanting them into the knees of patients. Dr. Saddler has been performing this procedure since 1999.

Dr. Saddler has given many national and international presentations of his research of knee injuries. His published articles relate to the treatment of knee ligament injuries and knee arthritis. He is also a reviewer for the journal "Clinical Orthopedics and Related Research."

Dr. Saddler received his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, and performed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He subsequently performed a two year clinical and research fellowship in sports medicine at Cincinnati SportsMedicine and Orthopedic Center in Ohio.

He has been active academically as a clinical instructor at Georgetown University School of Medicine since 1995. He served as the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery division at INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital from 1998 - 2002, and he has also been Chief of the Surgical Case Review Committee. He currently serves on the Credentials Committee for INOVA Mt. Vernon Hospital.

He has an active sports medicine practice. He has been the head team physician for the Potomac Nationals baseball team, minor league A level affiliate of the Washington Nationals, since 1999. He is also the team physician for the Mount Vernon High School football team.

Dr. Saddler enjoys helping his patients reach their fullest functional potential and returning them to their productive lives.
